Witches and wizards will soon have their governing body ready in Tokyo, as the set of the "Ministry of Magic" from the "Harry Potter" series was completed ahead of the opening of an entertainment center based on the film franchise.
Scheduled to open June 16, Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo--The Making of Harry Potter is currently under construction at the site of the now-defunct Toshimaen amusement park in Tokyo's Nerima Ward.
The attraction will be the world’s second, following the one located just outside London.
But the Tokyo facility will be the world's first to have the Ministry of Magic set. In J.K. Rowling's hugely popular series, the Ministry of Magic is a governing organization for witches and wizards.
It has appeared in iconic scenes in the movies, including one in which the protagonist Harry Potter and other characters face off with Lord Voldemort, the dark wizard and main antagonist.
Re-creating a set used for the film series production, the enormous area covers more than 900 square meters and stands at least 9 meters tall.
It was prepared with more than 30,000 tiles.
The set is complete with an office for ministry employees, bronze statues featured in the movies and fireplaces used by witches and wizards to travel.
Visitors can take photos and videos inside one of the fireplaces as smoke and lighting effects make them look like they have traveled by the power of magic.
During a special event held on May 11 to celebrate its completion, John Kirsop, who has worked on the film series and is also involved with the construction of the Tokyo theme park, said the set is built well enough to shoot another Harry Potter film with.
