Tokyo logged 6,968 new COVID-19 cases on April 5, down 878 from the previous Tuesday, marking a drop in cases from the same day a week ago for the second consecutive day.
Nine patients in their 60s to 90s died of causes related to COVID-19 in the capital, authorities said.
The daily average of new cases over the week through April 5 in Tokyo was 7,482, or 104.2 percent of the average for the preceding week.
The figure has exceeded 100 percent for the eighth consecutive day.
