“Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045,” the latest and first full installment in 3D computer graphics from the cyberpunk manga and anime franchise, will debut worldwide on Netflix on April 23.
The original manga by Masamune Shirow started its run in 1989 in a special edition of Kodansha Ltd.’s Young Magazine comic anthology. It was turned into an animated feature film of the same name by Mamoru Oshii in 1995.
The series is co-directed by Kenji Kamiyama, who has handled the “Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex” series, and Shinji Aramaki, who is known for the “Appleseed” series, which is also based on Shirow’s comics. Production I.G Inc. and Sola Digital Arts Inc. are co-producing the series.
The final trailer and a key visual featuring the main characters were unveiled in a special clip streamed on Netflix last month.
New characters and their voice artists were also revealed. Purin Esaki, who oversees maintenance of the Tachikoma robot tank at the National Public Security Section 9, is played by Megumi Han. Standard, a mercenary attached to a unit led by Major Motoko Kusanagi, is voiced by Kenjiro Tsuda.
