Convenience store giant Seven-Eleven Japan Co. announced on July 4 that it is launching a pizza delivery business.
In August, around 200 stores in Hokkaido, Kanto and Kyushu will start accepting orders. In this initial phase, these specific locations already offer the company's delivery service, 7NOW.
The pizza delivery service will subsequently expand to other areas.
Currently, there are only two pies on the menu, but they are oven-baked. A Margherita pizza will cost 780 yen ($4.90) and chicken teriyaki will be 880 yen.
The added delivery charge will be between 110 to 550 yen.
So far, the company has tested this service at around 30 stores that are mostly in Tokyo.
In the push to make its convenience stores even more convenient, customers can order 7-Eleven products through 7NOW's website or app and have them delivered.
Around 12,000 locations currently offer this service. The company plans to expand it to the Kansai and Chugoku regions from August, and the rest of the nation by the end of next March.
