SAITAMA--Prefectural police here on May 31 arrested a 68-year-old man on suspicion of attempted robbery and attempted murder over the shooting of a taxi driver in Kawaguchi city.
Investigators found Yoshiichi Segawa, a resident of Sakae-cho 3-chome in Kawaguchi whose occupation is unknown, on a train platform at JR Omiya Station in the prefecture at around 1:50 p.m.
He was questioned on a voluntary basis and then arrested.
On the morning of May 31, prefectural police placed Segawa on the wanted list.
According to police, Segawa entered a cab in the Akabane district of Tokyo’s Kita Ward on the night of May 29.
After the driver, in his 70s, parked on a street in Saiwai-cho 3-chome, Segawa demanded money and shot the driver in the abdomen, police said.
The suspect fled on foot from the scene and the injured driver toward JR Kawaguchi Station.
