OYAMA, Shizuoka Prefecture--A tour bus overturned on a prefectural road in the Subashiri area here on Oct. 13, killing one passenger and seriously injuring three.
Thirty-two others were taken to a hospital with less severe injuries.
Shizuoka prefectural police arrested the driver, Yuta Noguchi, 26, from Hanno, Saitama Prefecture, on suspicion of negligent driving resulting in injuries. He was arrested at the scene before the passenger’s death was confirmed at a hospital.
The Gotemba Police Station said it received an emergency call at 11:51 a.m. about a tour bus overturning while it was descending a hill.
Police sources said the bus was moving downward and reached a slope on the side of the Fuji Azami Line, which connects the foot of Mount Fuji and its fifth station.
The prefectural road gradually turns to the right. The bus driver apparently failed to negotiate the curve, and the vehicle overturned, the sources said.
