TOKOROZAWA, Saitama Prefecture--The Seibuen Amusement Park here will offer visitors an immersive virtual experience to fight an enormous “kaiju” monster alongside Ultraman.
Set to open on July 14, the “Ultraman the Ride” attraction is themed on the live-action superhero TV series that first ran in Japan in the latter half of the 1960s.
Visitors act as rookie members of the Science Special Search Party, wearing a “Floater” device to fly around.
Their mission is to help Ultraman fight space dinosaur Zetton, which was reputed to be the strongest kaiju in the original TV series and one of the most formidable nemeses for the superhero.
The park operator said audience members can immerse themselves in the world of Ultraman in seats that move in synch with the on-screen action, coupled with a surround-sound system.
The attraction was designed by Takashi Yamazaki, a movie director known for “Always--Sunset on Third Street.”
When the park reopened in May 2021, it introduced a “Godzilla the Ride” attraction themed on the “king of monsters.”
Admission to the park costs 4,900 yen ($34) for junior high school students and up, and 3,600 yen for children aged 3 or older, including elementary school pupils. Visitors can access the Ultraman ride at no extra charge.
