Pokemon Go developer Niantic Inc. and Capcom Co. announced “Monster Hunter Now,” a real-world action RPG mobile game for release in September on iOS and Android devices.
The app will allow players to experience the fantasy role-playing game in the real world, hunting monsters appearing on their smartphone screens while walking around the neighborhood.
The title is based on Capcom's popular “Monster Hunter” video game series that has sold more than 90 million units since its release in 2004.
Like “Pokemon Go” and “Pikmin Bloom,” which were co-developed by Niantic and Nintendo Co., “Monster Hunter Now” utilizes augmented reality technology and location information.
Niantic, a U.S.-based software developer, said it spent four years working on the project with Capcom.
“It will be the ultimate experience for anyone who has dreamt of facing off against epic monsters and battling them with friends,” said Niantic CEO John Hanke.
