Global sales of the latest Pokemon games surpassed 10 million units in the first three days of their release, a record-setting pace for game titles of Nintendo Co., the company said Nov. 24.
“Pokemon Scarlet” and “Pokemon Violet” were released on Nov. 18 for the company’s flagship game console, the Nintendo Switch. After three days, the sales had surpassed the previous global record set by “Animal Crossing.”
In Japan, 4.05 million units of the Pokemon games were sold in the three-day period, breaking the previous domestic sales record of 3.45 million set by “Splatoon 3.”
The Pokemon game series is produced by Pokemon Co., an affiliate of Nintendo.
The simultaneous releases of “Pokemon Scarlet” and “Pokemon Violet” were the first in three years for the series.
The newest titles are also the first open-world role-playing games in the Pokemon series.
The format gives players more freedom and range to explore the virtual world under an unstructured storyline.
