Tokyo reported 22,387 new COVID-19 cases on July 25, up 9,691 from the previous Monday, and three deaths among patients in their 80s to 90s.
The daily average of new infections over the week through July 25 in the capital was 25,927, or 159.9 percent of the average for the preceding week.
The same day, Nara Prefecture logged 2,134 new cases, breaking the previous single-day high of 2,067 recorded in the prefecture on July 22.
