Fresh cases of COVID-19 in Tokyo fell week-on-week for the eighth straight day on May 21 although seven related deaths were reported by the metropolitan government.
The daily tally stood at 3,464 cases, a decrease of 335 from the previous Saturday.
For the week ending May 21, the daily average of new cases was 3,564.6, which was 85.9 percent of the average of the previous week.
Only three patients were deemed to have symptoms serious enough to warrant the use of a ventilator or other equipment to breathe. The figure was unchanged from the previous day.
