Tokyo reported a week-on-week decline in new COVID-19 cases for the 22nd day in a row on May 3.

Metropolitan authorities confirmed 3,357 fresh cases, a decline of 1,691 over the previous Tuesday.

Officials also reported four deaths linked to COVID-19.

For the week ending May 3, the daily average of new cases came to 3,891.3, or 72.8 percent of the average of the previous week.

Eleven patients had symptoms serious enough to require the use of a ventilator or other equipment to breathe, officials said. The figure was up one from the previous day.
