Tokyo reported more new COVID-19 cases than the previous week for the seventh day straight.

Metropolitan government officials said there were 39 fresh cases on Dec. 24, 19 more than the same day a week ago.

For the week ending Dec. 24, the daily average of new cases was 32.3, a 58.3 percent increase from the previous week’s average.

No fatalities from COVID-19 were reported on Dec. 24.

Only two patients have symptoms serious enough to require the use of a ventilator or other equipment to breathe. That figure was unchanged from the previous day.
