At least four expressway sections were closed in the Tokyo metropolitan area on Feb. 10 in preparation for a heavy snow forecast.
As of 9 a.m. on Feb. 10, Metropolitan Expressway Co. had closed: the Central Circular Route (Oi JCT-Kumanocho JCT and Itabashi JCT-Kohoku JCT); the Yokohama North Route (Namamugi JCT-Yokohama Kohoku JCT); the Yokohama Northwest Route (Yokohama Kohoku JCT-Yokohama Aoba JCT); and the Saitama Shintoshin Route (Yono-Saitama Minuma).
The Japan Meteorological Agency has forecast continued snowfall for parts of the Kanto region through the morning of Feb. 11.
The expressway company said it is prepared to close four more highways to prevent cars from getting stuck and stranded in the snow.
