Tokyo registered 732 new cases of novel coronavirus infections on May 18, down from the 925 posted a week earlier, metropolitan health officials said.
The seven-day case average per day over the week through May 18 for the capital was 756.9 cases, representing 91.8 percent of the figure for the preceding week, officials said.
Of the newly confirmed infections, 209 patients are in their 20s, followed by 143 in their 30s, 124 in their 40s and 90 in their 50s. Eighty-one patients are 65 or older.
The number of serious COVID-19 cases requiring ventilators or an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) device, which circulates blood through an artificial lung, stood at 81, four fewer than the day before.
