You might easily mistake Katayama Bunzaburo Shoten's colorful scarfs, hats and bags for long-spine porcupinefish at first glance due to the spiky shapes they take on when not stretched out to wear.
Founded in 1915, the shop here has specialized in "shibori-zome" tie-dyeing and offers fashion items and interior goods that have been created using its accumulated expertise in traditional dyeing techniques.
Many of the shop's unique items, which have proved popular both in Japan and abroad, are designed to have uneven patterns.
Katayama Bunzaburo Shoten's main shop in Kyoto is currently open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
