A 250-meter-long tunnel 30 meters below the ground surface in Tokyo’s Chiyoda Ward connects the Marunouchi and Yurakucho districts. Cooled or heated air is sent to surrounding buildings through the pipes under normal conditions, but electricity and water can also be supplied in a natural disaster. (Keiko Nannichi)
