TAKASAKI, Gunma Prefecture--Miso Pan bread, a specialty made with fermented bean paste spread inside a baguette, will soon be on the fast track to the capital aboard a bullet train from here.
The treat, a specialty of Numata, Gunma Prefecture, will be offered in Tokyo after Jan. 14, when a Shinkansen starts transporting the local treat to Tokyo Station, East Japan Railway Co. (JR East)'s Takasaki Branch Office said.
Prepared by the Friand bakery and pastry shop in Numata, the snack comes in two flavors.
The regular Miso Pan (bread with miso paste) is priced at 302 yen ($1.90), including tax, while the Miso Butter (bread with miso paste and butter) will be sold for 324 yen.
Thirty pieces of each flavor will be delivered on a bullet train that leaves Takasaki Station after noon.
The breads will be offered from around 2 p.m. at the Nomono Tokyo-eki Gransta Marunouchi store outside the ticket gate on the basement floor of the station on Tuesdays.
