KYOTO—A railway operator is ferrying tourists through a tunnel of illuminated golden maple leaves in a seasonal nighttime experience.
About 280 maple trees line the track on an approximately 250-meter stretch between Ichihara and Ninose stations on the Eizan Electric Railway Co.’s Kurama Line in northern Kyoto.
Trains run more slowly with their car lights turned off so passengers can fully immerse themselves in celebrating the autumn leaves.
Maple trees will be lit up from dusk to 9 p.m. through Nov. 24.
The railway operator said autumn foliage along the route is expected to be at its best around Nov. 20.
