Fast Retailing Co., the parent company of Uniqlo Co., will open a global flagship Uniqlo store in Tokyo’s Shinjuku area on Oct. 25.

By opening in Shinjuku, a popular tourist destination, the company aims to attract both domestic and international shoppers.

This will be the fourth global flagship store in Japan and the first to open in four years.

The new store, named Shinjuku Main Store, will be in the renovated building that once housed the Bicqlo megastore, a collaboration between home-electronics retailer Bic Camera Inc. and the clothing giant Uniqlo.

The global flagship store will span the first three floors, covering a total retail space of approximately 4,000 square meters.

The store will carry the full range of products available in Japan, along with a curated selection of items designed for European and U.S. markets that are usually only available in Japan online.

The original Bicqlo Uniqlo Shinjuku East Exit Store opened in 2012, but it closed in June 2022 following the expiration of the lease.

“We also considered the changes in foot traffic due to redevelopment plans around Shinjuku Station,” a Fast Retailing spokesperson said.

Uniqlo currently operates four stores in the Shinjuku district, including locations near Shinjuku Station and Shinjuku-sanchome Station.

However, due to the increase in inbound tourists, all of them are running “at full capacity,” the spokesperson said.

Although the new store will carry the name “main store,” it will not serve as Uniqlo’s headquarters but rather as the flagship store for the Shinjuku area, the Fast Retailing spokesperson said.
