Princess Kako left Japan on May 25 for an eight-day visit to Greece to mark the 125th anniversary of ties between the two countries.
It is her third official overseas visit.
Kako, 29, is the second daughter of Crown Prince Fumihito and a niece of Emperor Naruhito.
She departed from Tokyo’s Haneda Airport.
The princess was escorted to the boarding gate at Haneda by Imperial Household Agency staff whom she thanked as she waved with smile to other passengers as she prepared to board the aircraft.
During her stay in Greece, she will visit the Parthenon and the Acropolis Museum in Athens, and an institution for the hearing impaired and an orphanage.
Kako previously visited Austria and Hungary in 2019 and Peru in 2023.
