SUITA, Osaka Prefecture--Visitors to the Expo ’70 Commemorative Park here can bask in the glow of a magical light show on the city’s iconic "Tower of the Sun" at the annual winter illumination event.
Awash in rainbow colors, the beloved giant sculpture looks unrecognizable from the daytime, with snowflake patterns projected on it and searchlights dancing in the night sky.
This year, the show also features another tower, a 7-meter-tall sparkling structure in the shape of a Christmas tree.
The park was built on the venue of the 1970 Osaka Expo, with the tower created by the famed artist Taro Okamoto preserved to commemorate the world's fair.
The illuminations are available from sunset until 9 p.m. every Friday and weekend through Dec. 30, with an extra show offered on Dec. 28.
