FUKUYAMA, Hiroshima Prefecture--A spectacle of illuminations and sounds using advanced digital technology staged at a lit-up centuries-old castle tower is wowing hordes of visitors.

The interactive light show, called “Team Lab: Digitized Fukuyama Castle,” is part of a series of events marking the 400th anniversary of the construction of the castle this year.

In one exhibition, dozens of large, egg-shaped balls laid out on the ground in front of the tower change colors to blue, red, yellow and other hues when visitors touch them. They also make a sound corresponding to each color.

In another, titled “Sketch Generals,” drawings submitted by the public of famous feudal warlords associated with what is now the city of Fukuyama are scanned and projected onto the walls. The characters then introduce themselves before strolling through a vast field.

The show runs from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and will be held until Jan. 29.

Admission is 1,500 yen ($10.89) for senior high school students and those aged above, 600 yen for elementary and junior high school students, and free for preschool children.
