Japan Airlines Co. will next year become the first Japanese airline to fly nonstop to the Middle East, the airline announced on July 18.
JAL plans to operate direct flights between Tokyo’s Haneda Airport and Doha, Qatar, from March 31, 2024.
The daily flights will depart Haneda late at night and arrive at Doha early the next morning.
The returning flights will depart Doha during the day and arrive at Tokyo late at night or early the next morning.
The announcement came as Prime Minister Fumio Kishida visited the Qatari capital to strengthen bilateral energy ties. Qatar is a major gas producer.
JAL believes the move will help increase the number of people traveling between the two countries. The flights will also be useful for passengers transferring to elsewhere in the Middle East as well as to destinations in Africa and South America.
