Children can enjoy riding on leaves floating in a pond and see flowers blooming at night at the Midsummer Botanical Wonderland in Tokyo's Jindai Botanical Park from July 22.
On Aug. 18 and 19, a spot will be set up where visitors can take pictures of themselves riding on the leaves of a Victoria amazonica in the pond at the park, located in Tokyo's Chofu, among other summer vacation events.
The event will be held twice a day for children weighing up to 30 kilograms. The limit is 15 children per session, with a lottery to be held on July 20, but the event is said to be extremely popular, with 2,000 people having already applied.
On Aug. 25 and 26, the large greenhouse will be open from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Visitors can enjoy the flowers of Barringtonia racemosa whose buds begin to open in the evening and fall off in the morning.
Kitchen cars will be set up in the plaza in front of the greenhouse.
Night-blooming Victoria amazonica can also be viewed in the open-air pond.
