HIMEJI, Hyogo Prefecture--Early morning visitors can beat the heat while enjoying eye-opening views of lotus flowers in various hues at a sprawling garden here.
Six varieties, including the ancient species Oga Lotus, flower at different times in the 12,000-square-meter Hasu no Kaen facility.
Petals of lotus flowers gradually open from early in the morning and close as the sun rises higher.
Visitors can view flowers from the wooden paths.
“We want visitors to appreciate lotus flowers in the morning when it is still relatively cool,” said a representative of Yamasa Kamaboko Co., a Himeji-based fish cake maker, whose plant manages the garden.
Admission is free. The garden is open until July 31.
