Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is arranging face-to-face talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization summit in Lithuania on July 11 and 12, several government sources said.

Kishida is expected to convey his commitment of continuing to support Ukraine against Russia’s invasion.

The two leaders will also likely reaffirm the importance of maintaining and strengthening international order based on the rule of law, as well as exchange opinions about a conference on restoring the Ukrainian economy that Japan will host as early as the end of the year, the sources said.

Kishida and Zelensky held their first summit in March, when the Japanese leader made a surprise visit to Kyiv.

Zelensky also made an appearance at the Group of Seven summit held in Hiroshima in May.
