KYOTO--Nintendo Co. announced it will open another official store in Japan, this time in its turf of Kyoto, on Oct. 17.

The video game giant opened its first official shop in Tokyo and its second in Osaka.

Like those two outlets, the Kyoto store will be operated directly by Nintendo and offer original game character goods and other items for which the company is renowned.

Nintendo Kyoto will operate in T8, a specialty store area set to open adjacent to the Kyoto Takashimaya department store in the ancient capital’s Shimogyo Ward.

With around 740 square meters of floor space, it will showcase more than 2,000 items, including the Nintendo Switch game console, the company’s flagship product, and character merchandise of popular video game titles.

Nintendo’s strategy is to sell goods at the official shops and provide other opportunities to expose customers to its intellectual properties it has built up through its video games, and, as a result, win over more game users.

“We want customers of all ages to enjoy what’s on offer at Nintendo Kyoto,” a publicist said.
