OSAKA—Universal Studios Japan (USJ) said it will open in spring the once-delayed Super Nintendo World area themed on Mario, Yoshi and other characters from Nintendo Co.’s video games.
The initially planned opening in summer was postponed because of the novel coronavirus pandemic.
The buildings are nearly complete, and the USJ operator will test the attractions and provide finishing touches to their interior and exterior.
The Mario Cafe & Store themed on the video game series opened on Oct. 16. The interior features tables decorated with the familiar mushroom patterns, while original merchandise, including T-shirts and cushions printed with Mario’s cap, are on sale.
The theme park reopened in June. But the number of visitors is limited to half the normal capacity to prevent infections. The number of visitors to the Mario shop will also be restricted when the place is crowded.
