Acclaimed Kabuki actor Ichikawa Ennosuke told police his parents ingested drugs after the family held talks, dropping hints that the three of them intended to commit suicide together.
His parents were found collapsed at the family’s Tokyo home on May 18, the same day a weekly magazine reported his alleged involvement in a sexual abuse and power harassment scandal. They were later confirmed dead.
An autopsy indicated that his Kabuki actor father, Ichikawa Danshiro, 76, and his mother, 75, died from an overdose of psychotropic substances around May 17-18. They were found on the second floor of the property.
Ennosuke, 47, was also found collapsed in a semi-basement room at the home on May 18, and an apparent suicide note was found nearby.
But he was not in a life-threatening condition and was discharged from hospital on May 19.
