The Japan Meteorological Agency is warning of icy roads and power outages as heavy snow is forecast in higher parts of the Kanto-Koshin region from the morning of Feb. 10 through Feb. 11.
Snow and ice could accumulate on power lines and cause widespread power outages.
Snowfall is also expected in low-lying areas that include central Tokyo, which rarely sees heavy snow.
Heavy snow warnings could be issued for areas that include Tokyo, Saitama Prefecture and Kanagawa Prefecture in the event of heavier or prolonged snowfall, the JMA said Feb. 9.
A developing low-pressure system may bring snow to lower areas of the Kanto region as it makes its way northeast from south of the main Honshu island from Feb. 10 through Feb. 11, the agency said.
The system could also bring heavy snow to the Pacific side of the Tohoku region from the evening of Feb. 10 to Feb. 11.
