A special show celebrating Kabuki actor Ichikawa Ebizo’s succession to Ichikawa Danjuro XIII opened on Nov. 7 at the Kabukiza Theatre in Tokyo’s Chuo Ward.
“I can’t even come close to my predecessors, but I will try hard and work hard,” Ichikawa said.
His 9-year-old son, who formally assumed the name Ichikawa Shinnosuke VIII, also debuted on the Kabukiza stage.
A ceremony to formally announce the name-taking was held at the theater on Oct. 31.
Ichikawa will perform in the famous play “Kanjincho.”
The special show will continue until Nov. 28.
From Dec. 5 to 26, another special show to celebrate the name-taking will be held at the theater with different actors and plays.
