Leading confectionery maker Ezaki Glico Co. will offer a special product bundled with toys designed by 10 leading creators to mark the 100th anniversary of its signature Glico caramel candy.
With a limited amount available from Nov. 22, the Creators’ Glico will come with one of 10 different toys designed by architect Kengo Kuma, “Dragon Quest” video game designer Yuji Horii, “Yo-Kai Watch” video game creator Akihiro Hino, industrial designer Naoki Sakai and others.
The Glico caramel candy was originally released in 1922. It was later bundled with toys reflecting the social situation of the time.
A total of 5.5 billion units of toys of about 30,000 varieties have been produced to date.
The company asked the creators to provide designs using the theme of “the Glico in your heart” for the anniversary project.
The toys are sculpted and manufactured by leading figurine maker Kaiyodo Co.
The product comes with four pieces of heart-shaped caramel candies, which are kneaded with roasted cocoa mass and frozen ground almonds.
The product will be available for 935 yen ($6.40), including tax, at Seven-Eleven Japan Co.’s convenience stores across Japan, Ezaki Glico’s online shop, Amazon and elsewhere.
