Fresh cases of COVID-19 in Tokyo and Osaka registered week-on-week increases April 9.
Metropolitan government officials in the capital reported 8,102 new cases, an increase of 707 over the previous Saturday.
Prefectural authorities in Osaka confirmed 4,200 fresh cases, an increase of 534.
Six deaths linked to COVID-19 were reported in the capital and 15 in Osaka.
The daily average of new cases in Tokyo for the week ending April 9 came to 7,552.9, slightly under the 7,622.4 average of the previous week.
Health officials said 29 patients in Tokyo had symptoms serious enough to require the use of a ventilator or other equipment to breathe. The figure was down one from the previous day.
