FUKUOKA--Gundam fans have yet another treat in store with the planned opening in April of Gundam Park Fukuoka in the new LaLaport Fukuoka shopping complex here.

Themed on the universe of the “Mobile Suit Gundam” robot anime franchise, it will be the nation’s first amusement facility to feature interactive attractions that allow fans to compete in a race or dodge attacks, according to Bandai Spirits Co.

“Gundam is a series that has been cherished by people of all ages,” said a representative of Bandai Spirits, which manufactures and sells plastic models based on robots from the sci-fi anime series.. “We hope the park will be enjoyed by everyone, from hard-core fans to families.”

Gundam-related video clips will be played at the facility, which will have a total floor space of about 4,700 square meters.

There will be a Gundam-themed version of the “Taiko no Tatsujin” drumming game.

Another highlight will be a shop whose design is inspired by the Space Colony, an artificial habitat floating in the space in the anime series.

Plastic model kits and knickknacks will be on sale. Visitors can assemble plastic models while they watch video clips on a large monitor.

A “life-size” standing statue of Gundam that rises to a height of more than 20 meters is also scheduled to be set up at LaLaport Fukuoka.
