Tokyo confirmed 36 new COVID-19 cases on Oct. 21, according to metropolitan government officials.
The latest tally, down 26 from the same day a week ago, brought the daily average of new infections in the capital over the week through Oct. 21 to 43.6, or 56.5 percent of the figure for the preceding week.
Metropolitan government officials also reported two deaths among male patients in their 50s and 80s in Tokyo.
The number of serious cases in the capital requiring ventilators or extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, also known as an ECMO lung bypass machine, fell by three from the previous day to 24.
Of Tokyo's 36 new cases, eight patients, the most, were in their 40s, followed by six patients in their 30s and five in their 20s. Seven patients were aged 65 or older.
