Tokyo reported 57 fresh novel coronavirus infections on Oct. 15, down 81 from a week ago, and seven deaths from COVID-19 among patients in their 50s to 90s.
The latest tally brought the daily average of new cases in the capital over the week through Oct. 15 to 65.6, or 45.1 percent of the figure for the preceding week.
The number of serious cases in Tokyo requiring ventilators or extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, also known as an ECMO lung bypass machine, dropped by one from the previous day to 39.
Of the new 57 cases, 16 patients were in their 20s, followed by eight in their 30s and eight in their 40s. Seven patients were under the age of 10 and eight were aged 65 or older.
