Tokyo confirmed 144 fresh COVID-19 cases on Oct. 5, down 104 from a week ago, and five deaths from the disease of patients in their 50s to 70s.
The daily average of new cases for the week ending Oct. 5 came to 181.9, or 53.4 percent of the average of the previous week, metropolitan government officials said.
The number of patients with serious symptoms requiring a ventilator or other equipment to breathe fell by three from the previous day to 74.
Of the latest cases, 33 patients were in their 20s, 28 in their 30s, 23 in their 40s and 19 in their 50s. Twenty-two patients were aged 9 or under, and eight were aged 65 or older.
