Tokyo confirmed 161 fresh COVID-19 cases on Oct. 3, down 138 from the previous Sunday, as well as seven related deaths.
The daily average of new cases for the week ending Oct. 3 came to 206.3, or 56.9 percent of the average of the previous week, metropolitan government officials said.
Eighty-eight patients were diagnosed with serious symptoms requiring a ventilator or other equipment to breathe, the same figure as the previous day.
Of the latest cases, 49 patients were in their 20s, 32 in their 30s and 19 in their 40s. Sixteen patients were aged between 10 and 19, and 25 were aged 65 or older.
