Tokyo marked the lowest number of fresh COVID-19 cases this year as metropolitan government officials confirmed 82 on Oct. 9.
The number was a decrease of 114 from the previous Saturday.
For the week ending Oct. 9, the daily average of new cases in the capital was 129.1, which was 57.1 percent the average of the previous week.
There were nine deaths from COVID-19 in Tokyo as well as 68 patients with symptoms serious enough to require the use of a ventilator or an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, also known as an ECMO lung bypass machine, to breathe. The number of patients with serious symptoms was unchanged from the previous day.
Of the latest cases, 20 patients were in their 20s, 16 in their 30s, 11 between the ages of 10 and 19, eight who were in their 40s as well as a similar number under 10.
