The number of COVID-19 patients with serious symptoms dipped under 200 in Tokyo for the first time in about a month on Sept. 15, as metropolitan officials reported 198 patients.
The last time the number of patients requiring a ventilator or other equipment to breathe was under 200 in the capital was Aug. 11.
Metropolitan officials also confirmed 1,052 fresh COVID-19 cases on Sept. 15 along with 20 deaths.
Sept. 15 marked the 24th consecutive day when the daily tally fell below that of the same day of the previous week.
The daily average of new cases for the week ending Sept. 15 was 1,132, which was 55.5 percent of the average of the previous week.
Of the latest cases, 267 patients were in their 20s, 213 in their 30s, 188 in their 40s and 135 in their 50s. There were also 78 under age 10, 77 between ages 10 and 19 as well as 66 who were 65 or older.
