Tokyo confirmed 1,067 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus on Sept. 12, down 786 from a week ago, along with 21 deaths among patients in their 50s to 90s.
The tally marked the 21th consecutive day for the number of new COVID-19 cases in the capital to drop from the same day a week previously.
It brought the daily average of new infections in Tokyo over the week through Sept. 12 to 1,384, or 54.3 percent of the figure for the preceding week.
The average number of diagnostic tests conducted in the capital over the three days through Sept. 11 stood at 9,638.
The number of patients in Tokyo with symptoms serious enough to require special breathing equipment dropped by three from the previous day to 230 on Sept. 12.
Of the latest 1,067 cases, 254 patients were in their 20s, followed by 187 in their 30s, 184 in their 40s and 137 aged between 10 and 19. Children under the age of 10 accounted for 111 cases, while 66 patients were aged 65 or older.
