Police on July 18 arrested an Uzbekistani part-time worker for the Tokyo Olympics on suspicion of raping another part-timer after a rehearsal for the Closing Ceremony at the National Stadium.
The Metropolitan Police Department said Davronbek Rakhmatullaev, 30, sexually assaulted the woman on July 16 inside the main venue of the Tokyo Games.
The suspect has denied the allegations, saying the woman “did not dislike” his actions, according to police.
Rakhmatullaev, a university student, works as a part-timer serving food at a press center located on the premises of the stadium.
The woman is also working for the Olympics, and they met for the first time on July 16, police said.
A Closing Ceremony rehearsal was held at the stadium in the evening, and he invited the woman to watch it together.
Around 9 p.m., he sexually assaulted the woman in the stands and an aisle after the rehearsal had ended and there were no people around, police said.
