A wriggly shape that snakes through a snow-covered mountainside in the Northern Japan Alps of central Japan shows the progress of work to clear a path so the famed Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route can open in April.
Snow clearing operations are under way in the 23-kilomter section between 977-meter-high Bijodaira and 2,450-meter-high Murodo, both in Tateyama, Toyama Prefecture.
When the route opens on April 15, visitors will be able to stroll along the spectacular snow corridor on part of the section.
The route runs through the Northern Japan Alps that exceed 3,000 meters in height and straddle Toyama and Nagano prefectures.
