An image of a low pressure system over Hokkaido taken by astronaut Soichi Noguchi (Taken from Soichi Noguchi’s Twitter account)
Japanese astronaut Soichi Noguchi shot a photo from the International Space Station of a rapidly developing low pressure system that brought a fierce snowstorm to Hokkaido and posted it on Twitter on Feb. 16.
The storm blanketed Japan’s northernmost main island after the low pressure system temporarily hit 946 hectopascals, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.
It is quite rare for a low pressure system to go below 950 hectopascals, the agency added.
Noguchi has been staying on the ISS since late last year after arriving there aboard a commercially developed SpaceX Crew Dragon ship.
