Tokyo could have its first snowfall this year on Jan. 12 as a low-pressure system off the southern coast of the Japanese archipelago is forecast to move eastward.
The Meteorological Agency said snow or rain could hit central Tokyo on Jan. 12, but clear skies and above-average temperatures are expected in the capital from the following day.
Snow is also expected in the Tokai region.
The agency predicted that over the 24 hours through 6 p.m. on Jan. 12, some parts of Aichi and Shizuoka prefectures could receive 1 to 5 centimeters of snow, while 5 to 10 cm of snow may fall in areas of Gifu and Mie prefectures.
