KURAYOSHI, Tottori Prefecture--A special exhibition here features 1,000 Nendoroid dolls modeled after characters from anime, video games, movies and other pop culture sources.
The display at the Enkei Gekijo Kurayoshi Figure Museum runs through March 21.
Nendoroids are palm-sized figures produced by Tokyo-based Good Smile Co. Their body proportions are 2.5 heads tall.
The company built the Rakutsuki Factory here in 2014 at the request of the prefectural and city governments, producing one Nendoroid variety each month.
Previously, an exhibition featuring 500 Nendoroid figures was held at the city-run Kurayoshi Museum in 2015.
Nendoroids serial numbered from 1 through 1,000 and produced between 2006 and 2019 are featured at the latest exhibition. They include characters from such titles as “The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya,” “Naruto,” “Super Mario Bros.” and “The Legend of Zelda,” in addition to movies like “Star Wars” and “Wonder Woman.”
“Even if you are not particularly interested in figures, we’d like you to find characters from manga and video games that you liked when you were younger,” factory manager Tetsuya Tanimoto said during the pre-opening ceremony held Jan. 22.
The venue is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
