Eiko Harada, the former chairman of McDonald's Holdings Co. (Japan), was arrested by Tokyo police on Feb. 6 on suspicion of spousal violence, investigative sources said.

Harada, who is 72 and also served as president of Apple Japan Inc. and chairman and president of Benesse Holdings Inc., denied the allegation, the sources said.

Harada was arrested after his wife, who is in her 50s, called the police to report that her husband attacked her, including kicking her in the leg, at their home in Tokyo on Jan. 5.
