After topping 200 COVID-19 infections for four straight days, Tokyo saw a respite on July 13 with 119 new cases, according to metropolitan health officials.

It had marked 206 cases on each of the two previous days.

The capital registered 243 new cases on July 10, setting a new single-day high, passing the 224 recorded on July 9.

Before that, the previous high was 206 on April 17, when Tokyo was under a state of emergency over the spread of the novel coronavirus, which was lifted on May 25.
