The latest tally for new COVID-19 infections in Tokyo exceeded 200 for the third day in a row on July 11, although no new record was set.
Health authorities reported 206 new cases, according to sources.
COVID-19 cases began surging in Tokyo since the beginning of this month. There were six straight days from July 2 with more than 100 new cases daily.
The figure dipped to 75 on July 8, but rose to 224 infections on July 9 and a record 243 on July 10.
The latest figure for July 11 matches the 206 that were reported on April 17 when Tokyo was still under a state of emergency related to the novel coronavirus pandemic.
